MAPUSA: Goa Velha Sports Club registered a 4-2 win via tie-breaker against Saligao United Sports Club to move into the semi-finals of the Pio Jose Gouveia Memorial Cup, organised by Youth Sports Club Colvale, played at Colvale church ground on Sunday.
It was Saligao United that scored in the 4th minute through Nester Dias’ brilliantly taken free kick from 25 yards which crashed into the right top corner of the goal giving no chance to Goa Velha keeper Agnelo Silva, 1-0.
In the 30th minute, Goa Velha had a superb chance to equalise but Chatur Naik penalty was brilliantly saved by Saligao kdeper Agnelo Fernandes.
On crossing over Goa Velha’s Chatur Naik strike struck the cross piece and went out of play.
In 48th minute Pravin Naik finally equalised for Goa Velha with a dipping strike 1-1. In the penalty shootout Goa Velha won by 4-2 margin. Saligao’s Agnelo Fernandes bagged the Man-of-the-Match award.
Goa Velha will now meet Nerul SC in the semi-final.
