MAPUSA: Goa Velha Sports Club registered a hard fought 1-0 win over CDJ Ribandar in the pre-quarter-finals of Augustias Sporting Cup, organised by Augustias Sporting Club, held at Pomburpa ground, here, on Friday.
Goa Velha colts took the lead in the 11th minute of play when Sainath Kankonkar after dribbling a host of CDJ defenders sent a through ball to Joseph Rodrigues who made no mistake in putting the ball inside the net.
In the 50th minute, Devesh Adkonkar of CDJ missed a golden opportunity to level terms, through a header.
Minutes later Goa Velha’s Frankey Cabral’s short was saved by CDJ keeper.
Man-of-the-match was awarded to Joseph Rodrigues of Goa Velha Sports Club at the hands of Francisco Xavier Fernandes committee member of Augustias Sporting Club.
