An Eucharistic celebration was held at St Andrew’s Church, Goa Velha with Fr Pedro Costa being the main celebrant.
Thereafter, the president of the club, Welvin Menezes welcomed all present at the function where chief guest F Pedro Costa felicitated of village players who represented at the National and International level in various sports.
Founder member of GVSC Shashikant Naik released the souvenir appeal.
The village players who represented at the International level in Sqay martial arts were Sohail Shaikh, Vaibhav Jalmi, Rohit Naik, and Sangharsh Ghawri (all from Pilar). Anila Kane (Firguembhat) represented the country at the recently held Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles.
The players who represented at the Nationals included in Sqay martial arts were Nitesh Jalmi (Pilar), Deeptesh Jalmi (Pilar), Aprant Naik (Pilar) and Abdul Khan (Pilar). Athletics: Maruti Koni (Mascarenhas). Basketball: Nicias Menezes (Saleria). Chess: Alfredo Cassiano Menezes (Saleria). Football: Wellyster Mendes (Mascarenhas), Boris Jesus de Melo (Zuari), Richmond Nunes (Morgado), Anthony Roger Coutinho (Morgado), Ezekiel Vaz (Dias), Eldan Vas (Dias), Yogendra Thapa (Saleria), Kaif Carvalho (Dando) and Sohan Shinde (Firguembhat).
A brief description of all the players was read out by the compere Agnelo Fernandes. Fr Pedro Costa in his speech congratulated GVSC for their initiative and also encouraged sports personalities to keep the village and club name always on the top.
Shashikant Naik spoke on the club’s rich history and congratulated the club on the felicitation of village players, release of souvenir appeal and launch of the club website.
Amongst those present were ex-Sarpanch of Goa Velha Constancio Pereira and Raymond Mendes.
Later, Welvin Menezes presented a memento to Fr Pedro Costa as a token of love and appreciation on behalf of the club. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by Agnelo Fernandes.
