PANJIM: Team Goa emerged champions of the Sqay Martial Arts clinching 35 medals including 22 gold, nine silver and four bronze at the 62nd National School Games, at Peddem Sports Complex, on Sunday.
In the Tchoukball, Goa had to settle for third place in the boys and girls categories respectively. While Punjab won the boys category defeating Maharashtra, Maharashtra girls got the better of Punjab to clinch the girls title.
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza was hte chief guest for the closing ceremony.
While addressing the gathering, D’Souza congratulated the winners.
Further he briefed the importance of sports and games in the life of human beings, more particularly in youth to shape their career.
D’Souza congratulated the Goan Sqay Martial Art team for winning 35 medals.
Municipal Council chairman Sandeep Falari in his speech lauded the efforts of the department for organizing such an event.
The SGFI Observer Tanuskh Chhatbar in his speech also praised the department for providing good facilities to the participating teams and also lauded the Goa government for building such good sporting facilities in the State.
