PANJIM: Goan athletes excelled at the 8th National Modern Pentathlon Laser Run Championship organised by Modern Pentathlon Federation of India (MPFI), at Amravati, Maharashtra, recently.
Babu Gaonkar won gold in the senior category with a timing of 12.12 minutes defeating Asian Games qualifier Mayank Chafekar of Maharashtra.
Uddesh Majik won gold with a timing of 12.38 minutes in the U-19 boys category. Yash Shankar Naik won bronze medal with a timing of 11.28 minutes in the U-17 boys and Vaishnavi Suresh Waddar won bronze medal with a timing of 13.39 minutes in the U-17 girls category.
The medal winners have qualified for the World Laser Run Championship to be held at China in June 2024. In the Global City Laser Run Tour 2024 event the following athletes bagged the medals: Narayan Giri (U-21 category bronze medal). Nigel Mark Raposo (U-17 gold medal). Yash Shankar Naik (U-17 silver medal). Dattaraj Keshav Naik (U-15 silver medal). Sachi Quiran Chari (U-15 bronze medal).
The athletes were welcomed at the Madgaon railway station by chief guest Krishna Velip, Deepali Raikar, Ramesh Velip, Sameer Raikar, Kirtan Vaiz, Balkrishna Gawas, Santosh Gaonkar, Virendra Majik, Alok Kothambikar and Nikita Naik.
MPAG President Sanjiv Gadkar, Secretary Sandhya Paliekar, Goa Olympic Association Secretary Gurudatt Bhakta and other members congratulated the Goan athletes for their success at the national championship.
