PANJIM: Rishi Gomes and Amon Gomes the young Goan MX riders won the national level race at the final round of MRF MOGRIP FMSCI National Supercross Championship held in Bangalore last weekend.
Amon had injured himself and could not ride the Pune round the previous weekend. Rishi also could not ride the Pune round as his board exams clashed with the event. But the passion for the sport led them to Bangalore to participate at the finals.
On race day it was one great effort put in by the Gomes brothers under the instructions of President of Goa Motor Sports Association Ashley Gomes. They were instructed to come out of the grid in the first three positions, and they did exactly that.
Rugved Barguje ( Pune ) got the hole shot with Rishi and Amon coming out 2nd and 3rd in the first corner. The strategy worked as they got as much lead as possible in the 1st lap itself. Rishi managed to hold his lead till the chequered flag but Amon slowed down at the fag due to his injury and close on his heals was Karan Karle ( Pune ) who  pushed his limits to take advantage of the situation.
After a hard fought battle between the two, Amon managed to hold back his competitor to take the chequered flag in 3rd position. But the star of the day was the new import from Dubai, CD Jinan from Kerala, who works and races in Dubai for Team Liberty Kawasaki, and rode for Team Goa Racing for the final round in Bangalore in the foreign open class.
In this class for the 2015 season all the 3 positions were dominated by Team TVS but to every one’s surprise Jinan clearly out smarted all the 3 TVS factory riders and claimed the top spot.
In the 1st moto KP Arvind ( TVS ) got the hole shot followed by Tanveer ( TVS ) and Jinnan in 3rd position, but Jinnan worked his way up, in spite of being being delayed by Tanveer, while KP Arvind got a bigger lead. With just one lap to go in the 5 lap race Jinnan with his years of experience managed to catch up with KP Arvind.
In the first moto final result Team Goa Racing bagged the 1st spot, Team TVS 2nd, and 3rd.
The day ended with a bang for Team Goa Racing finally getting 3 podium finishes. Team Goa Racing 2nd (CD Jinnan ) in Foreign open class, 2nd ( Rishi Gomes ) in Junior SX Class and 3rd ( Amon Gomes ) in Junior SX Class.
“We used the final leg of the MRF Supercross Championship to test the ground, before we launched a full fledged team for the 2016 season. Everything went as planned, and we did our home work well, all I can say is wait for 2016 to come and we will come back with a bigger bang,” said a jubilant Ashley.
