Goan FC trounce Salgaocar FC

PANJIM: Goan FC began their Goa Football Association U-18 League campaign with an impressive 3-0 win over Salgaocar Football Club at Cansaulim ground, on Wednesday.
Goan FC started the match on an attacking note and soon broke the deadlock in the 10th minute when Joybert tried his luck from the left angle from inside the box, but the Salgaocar FC keeper’s save fell into Wasim’s path and the lad made no mistake to score from close range.
Joubert was played by Asfin who later played to Wasim, who had another chance to score with only the keeper at his mercy but the striker’s effort went over the bar.
While Salgaocar FC were trying their best to score, Goan FC came with their second when Wasim played Asfin on the left wing and the player did a great job from a tight angle when he lobbed the ball over the onrushing Salgaocar FC keeper, 2-0.
At the half hour mark Salgaocar had a rare opportunity to pull a goal back when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box when Goan FC defenders obstructed M Oliveira. The lad himself stepped over and beautifully curled a left foot drive which narrowly missed the mark.
Salgaocar once again came close to scoring but their skipper Aaron Barretto’s effort was saved by the Goan FC keeper.
Asfin Pinto scored the team’s third and his second when he connected the ball past the onrushing keeper after being fed by Meuton. The winners led 3-0 at the break. In the second half, neither sides were able to score.
