MARGAO: The Goan Hockey to commemorate the Olympic Day organised hockey matches in the North and South Goa Districts at the Angel Astro Turf, Benaulim, and Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa.
At Benaulim, seven teams took part in the tournament. Rosary Higher Secondary, Navelim, defeated St Jude High School, Betalbatim, 3-1 in the girls section.
At Mapusa, in the boys section, Damodar English High School, Gudi, outplayed Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Uttorda. Amla Convent girls, Tamil Nadu, lost to Junior Goa girls by 1-7 goals. In the final, Goa Junior girls defeated Goa Sub Junior girls (Red) by 3-2 goals via tie-breaker. The full time score was 0-0.
Chief guest for the function was St Anthony Monte de Guirim Headmaster Fr Milchester Furtardo and OSD to Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji John Rod Rogues, was the guest of honour.
Fr appreciated the activities and wished the players all the best for the future and the Indian contingent for the upcoming Paris Olympics the best of luck, and later distributed the prizes to the teams and players. Goan Hockey Secretary Ferral Furtardo welcomed the gatherings, while Nelly Rodriguez proposed a vote of thanks.
