Goan Warriors down Bidesh XI; Assonora United, Benny XI win

MAPUSA: Goan Warriors FC registered a well deserved 3-1 victory over Bidesh XI in a GFA’s Second Division match at Duler stadium, here on Tuesday. The teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at interval.

Goan Warriors scored just five minutes into the match. A deadly low cross by Narayan Chodankar brushed past Bidesh XI defender Vishan Asnodkar and entered the goal. They almost doubled their lead minutes later, but Babani Gaonkar’s header off Jovian Conceicao pinpoint cross missed the target narrowly.

At the other end, it was a delight to watch Bidesh XI’s Shubham, Velrose and Minguel coming up in combined moves but a goal eluded them till the 28th minute. A long cross by Minguel was controlled by Shubham who essayed an excellent left footer giving no chance to Goan Warriors custodian Sail Parulekar.

In the last quarter of the first session, Goan Warriors had two more chances to take the lead, but Vaibhav Naik’s placement went out and unmarked Adesh Yeltekar failed to connect Narayan Chodankar’s cross with an unguarded goal before him.

After the interval, Bidesh’s Velrose floated the ball inside the 18-yard box but unmarked Minguel’s weak shot was blocked by Goan Warriors goalkeeper Sail.

In the 67th minute, Goan Warriors struck their second goal with Narayan nodding the ball into the goal following a corner kick by Saniel Oliveira. Goaded by the success, a 25-yard free-kick by Goan Warriors Anil Dessai crashed into the far corner of the goal beating the Bidesh custodian hands down.

At Guirim ground, Assonora United put a stop to PVC Parra’s success with a 4-2 victory. Parra went into the breather with a 2-1 lead. Rahul Pille opened the account for Assonora United while Noel D’Silva netted a brace for Parra.

On crossing over, Assonora United were a complete transformed

unit and they scored three goals through Saimesh Gaonkar, Sujit Gaonkar and Prajot Arabekar.

At Salvador do Mundo ground, Benny XI got the better of YSC Colvale 2-1.
