MAPUSA: Goan Warriors Football Club got the better of Goa Velha SC 3-1 in the GFA’s U-20 Second Division League, at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Goan Warriors held major possession of the match and initiated several vicious chances which were squandered by their strikers time and again.
In the 20th minute, Dayesh Gawas on getting hold of the ball fired in a low grounder which was neatly pushed to safety by Goa Velha SC custodian Nixon Rodrigues.
Minutes later, Nehal Naik set the ball on the platter for Dikshay Sarap, whose powerful strike missed the target narrowly.
Goa Velha did a commendable job as despite starting off the match with only nine players, they managed to break the deadlock in the 29th minute through Chandan Gawas, who on weaving his way past the rival defense, lobbed the ball over the advanced keeper.
Goan Warriors’ relentless pressure finally paid off when Pandurang Goltekar sent a long cross to Dayesh, who made no mistake to slot the ball home.
Crossing over, Goan Warriors increased their lead in the 57th minute when Pandurang Goltekar’s 30-yard free-kick crashed into the Goa Velha goal.
Towards the fag end, Deepak Chari made the issue safe for Goan Warriors by tapping in the ball from inside the six-yard box.
