AGENCIES, DHARAMSALA: Goa’s rising paddler Anshuman Agarwal went down fighting in the Sub Junior Boys singles pre-quarter-finals to India number one ranked Suresh Raj Preyesh of Tamil Nadu, losing 3-1 (7-11, 11-8, 11-3, 12-10), signaling an end to Goa’s campaign at the UTT 81st Cadet & Sub-Junior National & Inter-State Table Tennis Championships-2019, at Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier, Goa’s number two ranked Nagesh Verenker lost 3-0 (11-6, 11-4, 13-11) to Tamil Nadu’s Tharun Shanmugan.
Though Goa could not win medals, it was an improved show by the young team coached by Irwin Cordo, with several players making the second grade.
Earlier, Anshuman along with Nagesh Verenker had lost in Sub Junior Boys doubles pre-quarters, while Trisha Verlekar, Leoma Fernandes, Galya Fernandes and Shantesh Mapsekar were the other players to reach the main draw.
