PANJIM: Goa’s Derrick Menezes and Manish Kapileshwar retained their windsurfing and seabird titles respectively in the 75 Knots Regatta which concluded at Dolphin Watersports at Hawaii beach in Dona Paula.
Manish, along with his team mates, Cosme Silva and Ashok, dominated from the start winning all six rounds and finished with six points. Gautam Datta finished second with eleven points and captain Abhimanyu Patankar finished third with 14.5 points.
Reigning champion Derrick Menezes retained the windsurfing title finishing with five points. Donald Coelho finished second with 10 points and president of Boardsailing Association of India, Gopal Amin came third with 15 points.
Cmde Ashish Saxen finished first in the below 75 years category of windsurfing and Brigadier PC Roy finished second. Vidya Rao took the third slot.
“This event is a nice opportunity for all of us to get together and revive memories of the past and celebrate the present,” said Cesar Menezes, the man behind the 75 Knots regatta initiative.
“It is nice to be back again and retaining the title. I think we three, Cosme, Ashok and myself, showed great team work during the race,” stated seabird champion Manish Kaapileshwar. “Participating in the 75 knots Regatta is special because it reminds me of my triumphs of the past,” stated Derrick Menezes.
