PANJIM: Goa’s Lydia Barreto and Yasmin Sayed entered the junior girls doubles final at the Yonex Sunrise West Zone Inter State Badminton Championships( Individual events) played at Multipurpose Stadium, Peddem.
They play Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker of Maharashtra for the gold medal match. Goa was assured of its second medal when Lydia Barreto reached the semi-finals in the Junior Girls singles event, before losing to Riya Habbu(Mah).
Maharashtra dominated the day yet again with the Girls Singles being an all Maharashtra affair; Tara Shah playing Riya Habbu. They are also competing in the junior and senior mixed doubles finals. In the Junior Mixed doubles, Maharashtra’s Rohan Thool / Simran Singhi will take on Yash Raikwar/Shavi Bhatnagar from Madhya Pradesh while in the senior mixed doubles, Akshan Shetty/ Rashi Lambe (Mah) will be up against Piyush Bobade/Aishwarya Mehta(MP).
The boys doubles final will be a Chhattisgarh and MP affair where Jaiditya Pratap Singh/ Rohit Singh face Jayant Sisodia/ Kuber Verma. Gujarat has a chance to clinch the gold in the boys singles where they play Chhattisgarh; Aniruddhsinh Kushwaha will try to get one up over Harshit Thakur.
The day saw the continuation of individual events with lots of exciting moments.
The Men’s singles semi-final match between Priyanshu Rajawat of MP and Yash Yogi of Chhattisgarh went up to 27-25 in the 3rd set with the former clinching it. Priyanshu has set up a title clash with Maharashtra’s Kaushal Dharmamer who defeated Gujarat’s Karan Chauhan in the other semi-finals. Meanwhile, Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker of Maharashtra showcased their class by reaching the finals in Girls as well as Women’s doubles categories and are in the reckoning for twin gold medals. Their opponents in Women’s doubles will be Dipti Kuity and Shenan Christian(Guj).
In the women’s singles, Shenan Christian(Guj) has set up a tile clash with Purva Barve(Mah) while the men’s doubles final will be contested between Deep Rambhiya / Vignesh Devlekar(Mah) and Piyush Bobade/Shubham Prajapati(MP).
