PANAJI: Goan Triathlete Nisha Madgavkar successfully completed the Port Macquarie Ironman 70.3 race held in Australia, recently.
Nisha, arguably Goa’s most successful triathlete completed the 112.9 kms gruelling race in 6 hours 54 minutes.
A total of 2,900 triathletes from all over the world participated in the event.
The Ironman 70.3 popularly known as the Half Ironman requires the triathlete to complete a 1.9kms swim, 90 kms of cycling and a 21 km half marathon run all back-to-back.
Nisha had earlier completed the Bahrain Ironman 70.3 in December 2016. She was also the Goa Triathlon champion in the women’s category in February 2016. Nisha, a former state swimming champion trains with India’s most accomplished Ironman, Kaustubh Radkar of Pune.
According to Nisha, the Port Macquarie course was tough. The swim was conducted in the Hastings river and the run too was all along the banks of the river, while the cycling route was along rolling hills making it very challenging for the triathletes.
