PANJIM: Goa’s Gopal Kunkalekar and Melvin Mendes participated in the Para Badminton National Championship held at Bhubaneswar.
Gopal participated in SU5 category while Melvin in the SL4 category. Gopal is a three-time medalist and an employee of Goa Medical College.
This time he qualified for the knock-outs after playing 5 rounds. He lost in the quarter-finals to fifth-ranked Sugil Abbas in a close fight 21-19, 15-21and 18-21.
Melvin Mendes, SYBA student of Dhempe College with one leg amputee participated for the first in the National Championship. However, he lost in the third round.
