Goa’s Wellyster to train in Germnay

PANJIM: Wellyster Mendes, a standard 10th student of Fr Agnel High School, Pilar has recently been selected for a six-year scholarship to train at the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s youth football training academy in Zuzenhausen, Germany.

This programme was initiated by the U-Dream Foundation. It was a proud moment for the young goalkeeper, his family and school as only three footballers from the State were fortunate enough to make the cut into the final list of players.
Wellyster began training at a young age in class VI at Fr. Agnel High School, Pilar and it was no looking back after that as he became an integral part of the school team with his outstanding performance under the bar. His hard work and dedication paid dividends as he represented Goa at U-12, U-13, U-14 and was a silver medallist at the Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Cup U-15 Nationals.  His parents Effifanio and Maria along with his brother Wesley were always supportive of his dreams of becoming a football player and played an important role in helping Wellyster achieve his goal.
