MARGAO: Dempo Sports Club put up impressive display to ground Vasco Sports Club 5-1 to enter the semi-finals of the Police Cup football tournament organized by Goa Police, at Cuncolim ground, on Friday. Dempo led 1-0 at half time.
In the first half both teams started on an attacking note but lacked in their finishing.
However, Dempo surged ahead in the 13th minute through Steven Fernandes’ curling shot off an assist by Nickson Castanha.
Vasco tried hard to bounce back but Jerose Oliveira’s effort hit the goal post and the ball went out of play.
Crossing over, Dempo dominated the proceedings and doubled their advantage through Germanpreet Singh’s powerful grounder.
In the 65th minute, Dempo made it 3-0 through Uttam while Joy Ferrao added another with a deft placement.
With 10 minute left for the final whistle, Kapil Hoble struck for Dempo off an assist by Uttam Rai.
However, Substitute Agnelo Colaco pulled a goal back for Vasco in the dying minutes off an assist by Jerose.
The Golden Eagles will take on Tuff Laxmi Prasad Sports Club in the second semi-finals at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Monday. Salgaocar FC face SCC of Cavelossim in the first semi-finals at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday
