GTCC takes stock of Nat Games progress

Meet heads of various sports associations, urge them to select players at the earliest

PANJIM: The National Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) were in the State to inspect various venues, take stock of infrastructure works and review the preparation of the Games scheduled to be held from in Goa from March 30 to April 14.
The GTCC comprising chairman Mukesh Kumar, Dr S M Bali and Dhanraj Chaudhary met CEO Ashok Kumar and joint CEO V M Prabhudesai and were happy with the progress and asked them to speed up the ongoing projects so as to finish them on time.
The committee also had meetings with various head of departments wherein they had discussions on transportation, accommodation, camp for players, design agency, PR agency, training, volunteers, security, etc. They also met the head of various sports associations and urged them to select players for the Games at the earliest.
“Around 55 per cent work is over and we are confident that all the infrastructure work besides other preparations will be ready by February end,” Prabhudesai said.
The technical committee praised the work of Sawalwada-Peddem hockey stadium, Mapusa and Campal Stadium and said that as compared to our earlier visit we have seen progress much more than expected.
“All the work will be done in the next two months. The contractors are working tirelessly, 24 hours a day, so we have full faith in the timely completion of work. All these activities are specifically supervised by Chief Minister, Sports Minister and Sports Secretary”, Prabhudesai added.
“Organising a training camp for the selection of players and training camps is a very important part of preparing for the tournament in the State. There are 35 games in the tournament. In these games, special emphasis should be on selecting the best team of the State and providing them excellent quality training. Non-resident and residential camps for the players will be started soon. The respective organisations have information about the performance of the national players. So it does not take time to choose national players. These players should get an opportunity to practise more. A player should only be trained and we expect a good result from them”, Prabhudesai said.
