RAIA: Guardian Angel advanced to the semi-finals of the inter-village football match, organised by St Sebastian UC, at Dando ground, Benaulim, on Monday by defeating United Club of Verna, Verna, 4-3 in a tie-breaker.
The game began with Guardian Angel dominating from the outset, as Cyril Dias and Royan Menezes orchestrated play in the midfield, testing the Verna goalkeeper with several long-range efforts. Despite their aggressive approach, the first half ended in a stalemate at 0-0.
Verna came out strong in the second half, with Sheldon Pereira and Royden Rego delivering precise passes, but their forwards struggled to convert these opportunities, often thwarted by a resolute Guardian Angel defense. Clifton Rebelo made some impressive runs but couldn’t find the finishing touch.
As the match remained goalless, it proceeded to a tie-breaker. In the penalty shootout, Ryan, Keegan, Godwin and Cyril scored for Guardian Angel, while Royden, Clive and Aglon netted for United Club of Verna.
