MAPUSA: Guardian Angel registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Calangute Association in the tenth-round match of the GFA’s Professional league, at Duler stadium, here, on Monday.
Guardian Angel after suffered four straight defeats to the top clubs of GPL finally broke the jinx and collected three points where now they have 11 points while Calangute Association are on 15 points.
Guardian Angel led 1-0 at the breather through Aslon Oliveira while crossing ends Bamba Musah Moctar wrapped up the full three points with the second goal.
Calangute who had showed much intent in their previous league matches were a pale shadow as they were completely blown apart by the constant pressing from Guardian Angel who could have won the match by a bigger margin but for the brilliance of rival keeper Sanij Bugde.
The first chance coming through Josely Dias whose snapshot from inside the box was well stopped by the Calangute keeper Sanji after being found by Aslon Oliveira with a long cross.
Minutes later, Calangute’s Moises D`Sa brought up a timely goal-line clearance to stop Benzu Clemente’s header from entering the net off a corner kick taken by Agnelo Colaco.
In the 29th minute, Angel’s Musah delivered a dangerous cross into the box which needed a simple tap-in but substitute Beneston Barretto was wee late in getting to the end of it and the chance was gone.
Angel’s efforts finally paid off when they broke the deadlock in the 34th minute when Aslon Oliviera tried to thread the ball in the path of Musah but it was stopped by Calangute defender U20 Akash Kudnekar and the ball came back to Aslon who drilled a low grounder past the helpless keeper Sanij to give his side the lead.
Beneston was unlucky in the 39th minute when his well struck shot from close distance hit the post and came back into play.
Four minutes before the half time whistle, Angel’s could have doubled their lead when Musah got hold off an intelligent pass from Beneston who saw his low shot however kept out by keeper Sanij using his legs.
Crossing ends it was one-way traffic as Calangute could not stitch a single decent move as their main marksman Daryl Costa was closely marked by stopper backs Benzu Clemente and William Niasso.
It was a brilliant individual goal from Angel`s Bamba Musah Moctar in the 76th minute who on getting a pass from Beneston outfoxed defender Akash and slammed the ball into the net to seal the match and full three points.
