PANJIM: Guardian Angel HS, Curchorem edged past Our Lady of Snows HS, Raia 1-0 to emerge champions of 3rd All-Goa Meccabeus Rodrigues memorial invitational under-14 inter-school football tournament organized by Fr Agnel Youth Centre, Pilar, Tuesday.
In a well contested final which was mostly confined to the midfield, the teams dished out their best to outsmart each other.
However, Guardian Angel had the last laugh when they were awarded a penalty in the last minute as their forward was brought down in the penalty area. Lincoln Colaco calmly converted the spot kick to seal the victory for Guardian Angel.
Other prizes — Best goalkeeper: Ankit Kumar (Guardian Angel HS). Best defender: Roland Vaz (OL of Snows HS). Best midfielder: Josico Fernandes (OL of Snows HS). Best forward: Boris De Melo (Fr Agnel HS). Player of the tournament: Kimran Fernandes (Guardian Angel HS). Best disciplined team: Fr Agnel Multipurpose HS, Verna.
Francisco Silveira, ex-MLA, Fransisca Rodrigues, widow of late Meccabeus Rodrigues, Abhijit Patil, Fr Luciano Falcao and other dignitaries gave away the prizes.
