PANJIM: Guardian Angel High School Curchorem defeated Don Bosco High School Panjim by a solitary goal to emerge champions of the Meccabeus Rodrigues Memorial All-Goa inter school U-14 football tournament organised by Fr Agnel Youth Centre, Pilar, recently.
The final was keenly contested and both the teams had a fair share of the possession. The all-important goal came in the first session when a well measured cross by a Guardian Angel player was deflected into Don Bosco HS nets after the defender tried to clear the ball.
In the U-17 category Dempo Higher Secondary School defeated Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School 3-1 via the tie-breaker after both the teams failed to score any goals during regulation time.
Honourable MLA, St Andre constituency Francisco Silveira was the chief guest and Principal, Fr. Agnel College Fr Fredrick Rodrigues was the guest of honour and gave away the prizes.
Also present were wife of late Meccabeus Rodrigues, Francisca Rodrigues, Principal of Fr. Agnel HSS, Pilar and secretary of Fr. Agnel Youth Centre Fr Andrew Silveira, Headmaster of Fr Agnel High School, Pilar Fr Richard Crasto, Sarpanch of Agassaim Xavier Gracias and Sarpanch of Goa Velha Maria Mendes.
