CURCHOREM: Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem entered the semi-finals of the Zone IV (Quepem Taluka) football tournament, defeating Government Higher Secondary School, Canacona 3-2 in a tournament organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at Sheldem Panchayat ground, on Saturday.
The teams were locked 0-0 during the first half but soon after changing the ends, boys of Guardian Angel took the field with renewed ideas and took the lead in the 5th minute of second half through good placement by Ashley D’Çosta whose effort gave no chance to the rival keeper.
Stung by the reverse, Canacona, went all out in search of the equaliser and were rewarded when striker Velroy Victor Fernandes levelled the score in the 15th minute.
Austin Fernandes restored the lead for Guardian Angel whose powerful shot surprised the opponent goalkeeper when he saw the ball in his net. They were unlucky again when their striker Bevan Fernandes conceded their own goal when he was trying to clear it from his opponent.
Canacona they continued their efforts to level the score and succeeded in increasing their tally through their striker Adarsh Laximan but later opponents resisted their every move and stopped them to score further thus keeping the final tally 3-2.
