CURCHOREM: Guardian Angel Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology (GAIHMCT), Curchorem, emerged champions of the Inter-Diploma Sports Football Tournament 2023-24 by defeating Government Polytechnic, Curchorem (GPC) by 3-1 at Rosary Football ground, Navelim, on Saturday.
Seven teams from the technical institutions which are affiliated to the Board of Technical Education of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Porvorim, participated in the tournament organised by the Inter Diploma Sports Committee of DTE through Government Polytechnic, Curchorem.
Larson Rebello of GAIIHMCT scored a quick snap shot in the 10th minute of the first half, putting his team ahead. Despite GPC’s efforts to level the score, GAIHMCT maintained their offensive strategy, and Miltun Fernandes added another goal to their lead.
In the second half, GAIHMCT continued their aggressive play, and Miltun seized another opportunity to extend their lead, 3-0. Just moments before the referee blew the final whistle, GPC scored through Astal Dias to make it 3-1.
Special guests Ajit Gaonkar, chairman of IDS and Principal of GPC and Fr Joaquim Rebello, Principal of IHMCT gave away the prizes to the winning and runner-up teams, as well as individual honours.
