PONDA: Guardian Angel beat Goa Velha Sports Club 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of 25th All-Goa St Anne’s festival inter-village soccer tournament at Animal Husbandry ground, Curti-Ponda.
Melvito Fernandes and Russel Vaz scored for Guardian Angel in each half. Guardian Angel controlled the match and did not allow Goa Velha to strike rhythm.
Guardian Angel surged ahead when Melvito volleyed the ball off a Russel chip.
Stunned by the deficit, Goa Velha attacked through Vishant but before he could shoot, Sakib Sheikh cleared the ball from behind.
Guardian Angel increased their lead when Melvito shot into the goal but the ball hit the crossbar and Russel netted the rebound. At the other end, Vishant’s shot was saved by the Guardian Angel goalkeeper who dived full length to pull off the save.
Guardian Angel will now meet the winners of the game between Nerul Sports Club and Parish Youth Nuvem on July 14.
