CALANGUTE: Guirim Youth and Cultural Club got the better of Pilerne Sports Club 2-0 to move into the finals of All-Goa Lakhanpal Novino inter-village football tournament organized by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro Stadium, Candolim, Friday.
Guirim got off to a promising start and could have taken the lead in the fifth minute but Samson’s try sailed inches over the bar.
Govind put Guirim ahead in the 10th minute off a Samson move. Down by a goal, Pilerne had a golden opportunity to draw level but Caitano Paes missed the mark narrowly.
Guirim created a couple of scoring opportunities with Mandarao, Samson and Prashant having a crack at the Pilerne goal but were denied goals either by the defenders or goalkeeper Blasco Fernandes.
Pilerne too came close to scoring but their forwards Anson and Yeshwant faulted in the danger zone.
Gauresh Parab made it 2-0 for Guirim in the dying minutes.
Guirim now await the winners of the match between Saligao United and Parish Youth Nuvem in the finals.
