Gurudas emerges victorious

PANJIM: Gurudas Kankonkar from Nauxi defeated Jose Pereira of Zuari, Goa Velha in the final of 17th All-Goa coconut breaking contest organised by Active Boys of Calangute held at Calangute Association ground, on Sunday.

There were 34 participants in the competition. All the participants were allowed to use five coconuts each.
Gurudas entered the final with three coconuts while Joseph with one coconut. 
In the deciding hit, Jose’s coconut cracked leaving Gurudas as the winner.
The winner was awarded a cash prize of Rs 12,000 while the runner-up was awarded Rs 10,000 plus trophies. The third place with cash prize of Rs 3,000 was shared by Marcel Fernandes of Calangute and Agnelo D’Silva of Goa Velha.
Chief guest Fr Cipriano da Silva, parish priest of St Alex Church, Calangute and guest of honour Filipe Dias, vice president of Goa Boxing Association gave away the prizes. 
Also present were special invitees Padma K Nair, President of Calangute Association; Adv Francisco Sousa, former president; Alirio Lobo, executive member  and Savio Gonsalves, panch member of V.P Calangute.
Active Boys President Benedict Rodrigues welcomed while Javed Ahmed compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
