CALANGUTE: Holy Cross Arambol prevailed over Saligao United Club 8-7 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 17th Vagator Cup All-Goa inter-village football tournament organized by Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club, at the Ozrant ground, Vagator, on Friday. Arambol led 1-0 at half time.
Arambol took an early lead as Jason Fernandes capitalized on a defensive lapse to beat the rival keeper Krishna in the very third minute.
Trailing by a goal, Saligao United created a couple of goal scoring opportunities but time and again their forwards failed to score. Martinho Fernandes finally drew level scoring off a Govind Mahale assist in the 53rd minute. The winners were decided on penalties. Holy Cross, Arambol proved better shooters beating Saligao by 7-6. Sunny D’Souza, Jason Fernandes, Stepelton Fernandes, Vittal Kinerlkar, Domnic Alfonso, Sandesh Mardolkar and Bruno Fernandes converted for winners while Suvanand Naik, Trevor Dias, Paulo Joao, Govind Mahale, Martinho Fernandes and Akshay Morajkar were on target for losers.
