PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday dismissed the writ petition filed by Sportsweek Cricket Club challenging the decision to hold an Annual General Body meeting of the Goa Cricket Association (GCA).
GCA has called for an AGM on September 10 to discuss and adopt the amended constitution as per the guidelines given by the Lodha Committee formed by the Supreme Court of India but Sportsweek Cricket Club, which is represented by former Ranji player Hemant Angle, filed a writ petition drawing attention to illegal acts committed by GCA as it looks to implement the Lodha Committee reforms.
The Court asked Angle to approach the Court if the constitution is not amended by the cricket body according to the Lodha Reforms. The Court also asked the petitioner to attend and vote at the meeting.
The club in its petition had said, “The petitioner seeks to challenge acts being constituted by GCA in violation and contravention to the directions given by the Supreme Court while deciding the case of BCCI Vs Cricket Association of Bihar. The petitioner also seeks proper implementation of the Lodha Commission recommendations formed by the Supreme Court.”
The petitioner had also urged the HC to appoint an Amicus Curiae to inspect and examine the draft amendment of the GCA in relation to the recommendation given by the Lodha committee.
