Holy Cross, Arambol prevailed over Sai Avtaar, Anjuna 2-1 in the inaugural match of 1st Francisco and Matildinha Egipsy memorial inter-village football tournament

CALANGUTE: Holy Cross, Arambol prevailed over Sai Avtaar, Anjuna 2-1 in the inaugural match of 1st Francisco and Matildinha Egipsy memorial inter-village football tournament organized by St Savio Sports Club, Calangute at Poriat  ground, Calangute, Monday.

Arambol were lucky to take the lead in the 10th minute through a penalty converted by Amit Fernandes following a handball in the D.  Anjuna fought back and restored parity in the 20th minute with Shekar Kerkar finding the net. 

Changing over, Anjuna came close to scoring on a couple of occasions but their forwards failed to find the net.  Arambol scored the match-winner in the 49th minute through Sheshank Asvekar who beat the Keeper with a neat placement.

Earlier, the tournament was kicked off by sarpanch of Calangute, Geeta Laxman Parab in the presence of Joao Anton Sequeira, president of Poriat Football Recreation Society, Lavinio Rebello, GFA’s vice-president, GFA executive committee members Babli Mandrekar, Uday Lingudkar and Welvin Menezes, Albert Fernandes, president of St Savio Sports Club, Prashant Rasaikar (general secretary), John Fernandes, sports secretary.
