SAO JOSE DE AREAL: Holy Cross, Boreavaddo defeated Holy Cross, Menezesbhatt 2-0 to move into the final of the 15th Sao Jose de Areal inter-ward football tournament organized by Holy Cross Association, Mugalli, at Padribhat ground, Sao Jose de Areal, on Saturday.
Fr Jayson played well for Holy Cross Menezesbhatt in the upfront while Alviton Silva and Legiston Vaz were at their best for Boreawaddo.
Fr Jayson in the very third minute of play would have found the ball at the back of the rival net with his rasping left footer but Legiston cleared it to safety.
Just 10 minutes in the first half, Alviton dribbled past rival defender Bracel Viegas and unleashed a left footer which coolly landed into the nylons of Menezesbhatt.
Legiston had a chance too to score in the 12th minute but the rival goalkeeper was equal to the task.
After the lemon break, Holy Cross, Boreawaddo through Alviton and Legiston in the 48th minute worked out a set piece which had an open chance to score but Legiston shot wide.
This time Legiston took full advantage of the goalkeeper Sheldon Duarte of Menezesbhatt, who was out of position, and pulled his trigger shot to score 2-0 in the 55th minute of a fine connect by Alviton.
Fr Jayson shot wide in the 56th minute. Thereafter, Holy Cross, Menezesbhatt’s Bracel long ranger shot was divinely saved by the rival goalkeeper in the 58th minute.
