DULER: Our Lady of Mount Carmel HS, Arambol, registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Our Lady of Rosary High School, Dona Paula, in the finals of the girls U-14 Subroto Mukherjee North District football tournament held at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday.
It was the girls that made the Arambol school proud after the boys lost on Thursday in the finals against St. Britto’s HS, Mapusa. Boys U14 team and the parents flocked in large numbers to cheer their girls who then returned home happy, after Friday’s remarkable win which took their girls team to the State finals.
Once again Pearl Fernandes, who was the star striker for Arambol school, struck a goal in each session of play. Dale Gomes managed to find the equaliser for Dona Paula school to see the team locked in a 1-1 draw at the breather.
When it looked the teams were heading for the penalty shoot out, it was Pearl Fernandes who dribbled past a host of rival defenders and scored the winning goal 2-1.
St Xavier’s HSS Mapusa, secured the third place by defeating Shri Vijayanand HSS, Mapusa, by a 2-0 margin. Xavier’s goal scorer were Mokshada bhaidar and Durvasime Purishkar.
