MARGAO: Holy Spirit Institute High School, Margao emerged State champions in the U-14 Subroto Mukerjee Cup, defeating Fr Agnel High School, Pilar 5-0 in the final, at artificial turf ground, Fatorda, on Monday.
Holy Spirit HS dominated the play right from the first whistle as the Margao school took no time to test the rival keeper as Richard Carvalho’s long range shot was saved by the keeper in the very first minute.
However, Holy Spirit HS opened the scoring in the second minute through Mevan Dias.
Holy Spirit HS’s Mevan Dias and Harsh Patre combined well together to torment rival defenders time and again. At the other end, Fr Agnel’s Gauraj Kunkolkar and Kenny Rodrigues had their share but the duo lacked support from their teammates.
Richard Carvalho made it 2-0 in the 13th minute for Holy Spirit HS and Mevan Dias completed his brace in the 33rd minute to make it 3-0.
Saideep Pombraphekar scored the fourth in the 45th minute and Vellington Fernandes netted the fifth goal in the 52nd minute.
Holy Spirit HS displayed a well formatted football in almost all departments with accurate passing.
GFDC chairman Dr Rufino Monteiro and other dignitaries were present for the final.
