PANJIM: Goa’s Holy Spirit Institute, Margao registered their first victory in the on-going U-14 sub-junior boys Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, with a convincing 9-0 win over The Air Force School (TAFS), Bangladesh at the Dr Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi, on Friday.
The Goan lads attacked from the word go and opened the account in the 4th minute when a short pass from Saideep from the left flank into the goal area, found an unmarked Richard who taped the ball into the nets, 1-0.
Three minutes later, Goa doubled the lead through a powerful long range effort from outside the box by Harsh Patre.
In the 14th minute, a neat grounder from the right wing by Nathan found Aditya at the edge of the box, who dribbled past three defenders, to send home the ball, 3-0.
Crossing over, Maven Dias made it 4-0.
The Goan boys literally camped in the territory of the TAFS.
A little after the half hour mark the Air Force defender fouled Nathan in the left side of the box.
Harsh took a blistering free kick to find the left corner of the net to make it, 5-0. In the 38th minute, Maven in the left flank, found an unmarked Harsh Patre in the box, who taped the ball into the net to make it 6-0.The Air Force was all at sea against the onslaught from the Goans.
Aditya, Maven and Harsh combined well with a one-to-one dribbling to find unmarked Nathan on the edge of the box, who neatly placed the ball into the left corner of the nets, 7-0.
An unmarked Air Force forward with no Goan defender in sight had only to beat Goan keeper. At that very moment an intelligent run forward by the Goan keeper, Frevino Fernandes, who dived at the feet of the Air Force striker only to ruin the lone scoring opportunity that came their way.
Aditya in the 46th minute, had a solo run, from the midfield on the right flank, dogged passed the defenders and the goalkeeper and sent home a low footer in the right corner to make it 8-0. Three minutes later Nathan’s left footer, finally grounded the Air Force by making it 9-0.
