MARGAO: Sixteen top teams from South Goa will participate in Honey Bee Friendship Cup 2013 inter-village football tournament (South zone) organized by Salcete Football Club which will commence on September 1 at 4.30 p.m. at Enfermos ground, Sinquetim, Navelim.
Briefing media on Friday, Joseph Dias, president of Salcete Football Club confirmed the participation of the 16 teams. “Holders Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda; Parish Youth, Nuvem; Cuncolim Union; Curtorim Gymkhana; Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda; Betalbatim Sporting Club; CRC, Chinchinim; Enfermos Sports Club; Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club; Ambelim Sports Club; Arlem Youth Association; Verna Sports Club; Margao Sports Club; Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim; St Anthony’s Sports Club, Colva and Sporting Club of Davorlim will take part,” disclosed Dias.
The winners will receive Rs 50,000 while the runners-up will take home Rs 30,000. The final is slated for September 22.
Meanwhile, the North Goa Honey Bee Friendship Cup will be organized by Candolim Sports Club from September 29 at Candolim ground with the final slated on October 22. 
Dias hailed the sponsors for providing a splendid opportunity for the development of young talent and wished to see couple of players make it big in the I-League clubs.
“Honey Bee is committed in giving Goan footballers a platform to hone their skills and cement their place in professional clubs and also enable them to focus on their goal,” stated K Gopinath, deputy general manager, United Spirits, UB Group.
Gopinath hailed Salecte Football Club for developing young talent through its own grassroots programme and felt proud to be associated with them. “We congratulate Salcete Football Club for their commitment to promote grassroots football and helping us in the organization of this tournament,” added Gopinath.
Among those present were Alberto Colaco, general secretary of Salcete FC and secretary of SAFF; Schubert Furtado, chairman of GFA’s Organizing Committee; Agnelo Mascarenhas, vice- president, Salcete FC and Anthony Pango, assistant secretary.
