RAIA: Host Raia Sporting Club scored a fluent 6-2 win over SCC Loutolim to move into the quarter-finals of 51th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club, at Raia panchayat ground, on Tuesday.
The game started on a fast pace and both teams showed urgency to score goals. Raia SC missed to score on three occasion and finally netted through the boots of Laren Dias with a neat placement in the 31st minute of play. SCC Loutolim failed to equalise before half time as Doyal failed to connect. At half time, Raia SC were leading 1-0.
After resumption of second half, Raia Sporting Club changed the complexion of the game and scored four more goals. Leran Dias scored a hat-trick by netting in the 48th, 53rd and 64th minute of play, while Sidney Gauncar in the 55th minute and Garrison Fernandes in 58th minute of play were the other scorers. SCC Loutolim pulled two goals through Velroy Fernandes and Doyal Alves. First due to goalkeeper error and second goal through penalty shot as Raia SC defender handled the ball in the danger area.
Leran Dias was awarded the man-of-the-match award for his outstanding performance, by Raia Deputy Sarpanch Oswald D’Souza.
