CURCHOREM: Hosts United Friends, Curchorem got the better of Sea Pearl, Velim 6-4 via tie-breaker in the final to clinch the United Friends Trophy organized by United Friends Curchorem, at Curchorem ground, recently.
In the first half, Joaquim took the lead for United Friends in the 7th minute. Gabriel doubled the lead in the 10th minute while Alvito made it 3-0 in the 16th minute.
Crossing over, Samson scored a brace for Sea Pearl in the 48th and 50th minutes while Mario netted the third in the 56th minute.
Goalkeeper Rizwan of United Friends brought in three smart saves in the last quarter of the second half.
At the end of regulation time, both the teams settled for a 3-3 draw.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, United Friends proved to be the better shooters.
The winners were awarded Rs 30,000 and a trophy while the runners-up pocketed Rs 20,000 plus trophy. Rizwan of United Friends was awarded best goalkeeper prize.
Councillors of Curchorem Balkrishna, Felix, Piedade Diniz and Tony Coutinho were the guests present who gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of club officials and International footballer and son of the village Alvito D’Cunha.
