PANJIM: Hotshots (Panjim), Our Lady of the Rosary (Dona Paula), Lourdes Basketeers Club (Saligao) and Sonics (Porvorim) will clash in the final of the State Basketball Championship organised by Panjim Basketeers Club, at Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim.
In the women’s semis, Hotshots had a comfortable win over Sharada Dashing Damsels 34 -16. Shimei Nathan (20pts) easily pierced through the defence and made it look easy with constant scoring. Wynona Godinho (8pts) and Anoushka Singhee (6pts) put up a good fight for Sharada Dashing Damsels.
In the second low scoring semi-final, Our Lady of the Rosary defeated Lourdes Hoopsters 17-10, to ensure their berth at the finals. Sarah Hussain (8pts) played well for Rosary while Sejal Kudnekar (6pts) played well for the Hoopsters.
In the Men’s semis, Lourdes Basketeers club overpowered Sharada Assailants 54-19 to prove a point of their supremacy. Shubham Singh (12 pts) and Bavish Bijoy (8 pts) toyed with their opponents controlling every move to ensure Lourdes a slot finals.
In the second semi-final, Sonics defeated YMCA Warriors 52-41 in a tense match, where Sonics proved their experience matters more. Calvin D’Mellow (17 points) and Arihant Jain (11 points) controlled the rebounds and movements in the key, dominating for Sonics.
The women’s final will be held at 4 p.m. while the men’s final will be played at 5 p.m. on Sunday, at Don Bosco Oratory.
