MARGAO: Immaculate Conception Sports Club (ICSC) Paroda rallied from behind to defeat Cuncolim Union 5-3 via the tie-breaker in the Salcete Zone GFA Third Division play-off at Holy Trinity Ground, Benualim on Tuesday.
Both the teams were tied 1-1 at full time. The teams displayed attacking flair as a result there were plenty of thrills at either end.
As the match progressed, Cuncolim Union took control over the match with their forwards and midfielders working in tandem to put the rival defence into disarray.
Cuncolim Union’s breakthrough came in the 10th minute when striker Valky Fernandes bulge the net.
With the setback, ICSC Paroda made valiant efforts to neutralise the lead but failed to get past the rival defence.
Post resumption, Cuncolim Union continued to enjoy the better ball possession and created many openings but their forwards misfired from handshaking distance.
Midway in the second session, ICSC Paroda went all out in search of an equalizer and their efforts bore the fruit in the 78th minute when Sheldon Dias punted the ball to the far corner of the net.
With time running out, both the teams went all out but the match winner eluded them. In the penalty shoot out, Godfrey Fernandes, Anthony Dias, Mario Fernandes and Shelton Dias converted for ICSC Paroda while Beston Colaco and Jeromio Fernandes found the mark for Cuncolim Union.
Sanwil D’Costa and Clifton Fernandes of Cuncolim Union were show yellow cards for unsporting behaviour.
