MARGAO: South Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Tikam Singh Verma on Sunday said that the Goa Police are fully prepared to handle security arrangements for the upcoming AFC Champions League Two match between FC Goa and Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, on October 22.
While speaking to the mediapersons, SP Verma said, “Preparations are already underway in coordination with the organisers to ensure smooth crowd movement and overall safety at the venue.”
“We have made all necessary arrangements for the match in consultation with FC Goa officials. If Cristiano Ronaldo decides to come, we are fully prepared to handle the security arrangements,” he said.
The Superintendent of Police clarified that there has been no official confirmation yet to them about the Portuguese star travelling with his team for the fixture. However, police deployment and traffic control plans have been scaled up, given the expected turnout for the high-profile encounter.
FC Goa have also confirmed that the visiting team’s visa applications, including that of Ronaldo, have been submitted for processing. The club is working with local authorities to manage gate access, parking and crowd dispersal, with advisories to be issued closer to match day.
The much-anticipated fixture is part of FC Goa’s home campaign in the AFC Champions League Two, and Al-Nassr’s star-studded lineup is expected to draw record attendance at Fatorda.
