CURCHOREM: Igramol Boyz, Quepem registered a 3-2 victory against USA Boyz, Tilamol in the 7th Alex Memorial 7-a-side football tournament organised by Deulmol Youth, Quepem at Deulmol-Shira ground, Quepem, recently.
The teams started on an attacking mode.
Tilamol took the lead when striker Irfan Khan slotted past the rival keeper with a snap shot in the seventh minute of word go.
Stunned by the setback, Quepem regrouped quickly and instantly took the fight to the rival camp and neutralized the lead with a strong shot from striker Selvi Fernandes in the 16th minute.
Post resumption, the Quepem side began in the right earnest and pushed Tilamol on the defensive and breakthrough came in the eighth minute of second half when Selvi bulged the net second time.
Stung by the reverse, Tilamol went all out in search of the equaliser and but Quepem resisted all their moves and succeeded in increasing their tally through Roy Fernandes.
Tilamol increased their pace and went all out to level the tally but succeeded in scoring only a goal through striker Raju Velip before the referee blew the final whistle.
Igramol Boyz were awarded Rs 25000 while USA Boyz had to be content with Rs 20,000.
Franky Carvalho of Quepem was named best goalkeeper-of-the-tournament while Raju Velip was named best scorer-of-the-tournament.
Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of QMC Vice-Chairman Chetan Haldankar, Organizing President Luis Oliveira, Secretary Sirilo Dias and other dignitaries.
