PANJIM: IM Nitish Belurkar (2435) put up a spirited performance to achieve a 12th place podium finish in the strongly rated Bangalore International Grandmaster Open Chess tournament 2024 held at the Sri Kranteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, recently. Altogether, 210 players from 18 countries participated which included 31 GMs and 41 IMs.
Nitish scored 7 points with a performance rating of 2487 .He defeated IM Nitin S (2385) , IM Moksh Doshi (2355) , FM Jaiveer Mahendru (2294) and WIM Isha Sharma (2183) and drew with GM Alexei Fedorov (2457) and IM Aronyak Ghosh (2547) amongst others.
IM Ameya Audi scored 6.5 points to secure 25th place while IM Ritviz Parab scored 6 points to secure the 43rd place. GM Mitrabha Guha and GM Sethuranan of India won the first and second place with 8 points each while GM Nigel Short of England won the third place with 7.5 points.
Nitish will next participate in the European chess circuit in March.
