NAVELIM: Immaculate Conception Sports Club, Paroda got the better of Mangor Sports Club 2-1 in the Goa Football Association’s Second Division League play-off match, at Navelim ground, on Thursday. ICSC Paroda were leading 1-0 in the first half.
Silvester Carvalho could have scored for Mangor SC after being set up by John Fernandes in the sixth minute but defender of ICSC, Soccor Colaco came up with a timely tackle.
Thereafter, ICSC’s Ibon D’Costa sent in a long ball to Savio Oliveira inside the box of Mangor SC but Royston Vaz of Mangor SC cleared the threat.
Soon, in the ninth minute, ICSC surged ahead as Ebon D’Costa unleashed a powerful shot from close range.
Thereafter, Ebon was fed by Mario Fernandes in an ideal position but rival goalkeeper Paresh left him frustrated in the 43rd minute.
Crossing over, ICSC went all out as Micky Vaz saw his powerful effort blocked by rival defender Royston Vaz in the 46th minute.
The combination of John Fernandes and Slachi Cardoza for Mangor SC should have earned some good dividends. However, John squandered a golden opportunity at the hour mark.
At the other end, Micky Vaz made no mistake to double the advantage of ICSC in the 89th minute with a rasping grounder off an assist by Mario Fernandes.
Goalkeeper Paresh of Mangor SC came to his sides rescue in the dying minutes as he denied a powerful attempt by Eban.
Mangor SC pulled one goal back through Royston Vaz as the latter converted a spot-kick in the injury time.
