India settle for 4th place

PANJIM: FM Nitish Belurkar of Goa, represented the Indian Chess team in the U-16 World Youth Chess Olympiad  and displayed brilliant attacking acumen in the final round to defeat Song Ziyuan (rating 2049) of Canada, at Tatry, Slovakia, recently. 
Nitish is a Geno Pharmaceuticals brand Ambassador alongwith  teammates Raghunandan Srihari of Karnataka and Mitrabha Guha of West Bengal also registered facile victories over their Canadian opponents to bring India very close to winning the bronze medal. 
The fourth Indian team player P Iniyan of Tamilnadu however lost his final round match to Joseph Bellisimo of Canada. India had to settle for the fourth place. 
Altogether 54 teams from all over the World participated in the tournament. Iran , Russia and Armenia won the gold, silver and bronze, respectively. 
FM Nitish Belurkar will now proceed to Czech Republic to participate in IM norm tournaments in Olumuc and Prague.
