IndianOil shuttlers make clean sweep

PANJIM, MARCH 20 Hosts, Indian Oil made a clean sweep winning the men's and women's events at All-India Public Sector Badminton tournament which concluded at multipurpose indoor hall, Fatorda, Margao, on Saturday.

Hosts, Indian Oil made a clean sweep winning the men’s and women’s events at All-India Public Sector Badminton tournament  which concluded at multipurpose indoor hall, Fatorda, Margao, on Saturday.
Top seed, P.Kashyap of Indian Oil made short work of giant killer, Saurav Verma of ONGC, in men’s singles final, winning quite easily 21-12, 21-11.
The top seeded men’s doubles pair of Arun Vishnu and Tarun K (IOC), completed the rout, defeating second seeds Alwin Fransis and Mayank Behl (FCI) 21-13, 21-14.
Both finals turned out to be tame affairs, with the winners completely outplaying their opponents, who could only put up a token resistance.
Indian Oil had earlier won the women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles besides claiming the men’s and women’s team championships.
Indian Oil’s Trupti Murgunde, current National Champion, Aparna Balan (India No.2 in women’s doubles and mixed doubles) and Arun Vishnu (Indian No.2 in men’s doubles and mixed doubles) won all the events that they entered in.
ONGC’s Saurav Verma and Neha Pandit from Airports Authority of India (AAI), both of whom finished as runners-up in the individual events received special prizes for their splendid showing right through the five-day long tournament.
Prizes were given away by N S Venkatraman, General Manager, Indian Oil, Head Office, who was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
