IOA team inspects venues

PANJIM: The IOA delegation currently in Goa to examine the venues for hosting the 37th National Games in October-November undertook the first-leg of the 3-day inspections on Sunday.

They inspected the Campal stadium, Campal swimming pool, Water Sports arena at Dona Paula, Yachting Centre, Indoor stadiums at Taleigao, Bambolim and Peddem.

The officials were briefed by Dr Geeta S Nagvenkar, Joint CEO, NGOC and SAG Executive Director before moving to the venues, wherein a few minor suggestions were given, with all the officials being on the same page. A major suggestion was that the cycling and shooting events could be held in Pune rather than in New Delhi.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Govind Gaude stated that the technical inspections by each participating Federation will be held later.

In their secong-leg inspection tomorrow, they are expected to visit the Navelim stadium where they will witness demonstrations of some new sports which could be included in the Games, namely Lagori, Pencak Silat, Sqay Martial Art, Roll Bowl which are awaiting the IOA approval.
