What is the Riyan Parag Vaping case?
Riyan Parag, struggling for form this season, was seen vaping in the dressing room during a live broadcast of RR’s match against Punjab Kings.
While Rajasthan won the game and ended Punjab’s unbeaten streak, the clip quickly went viral, triggering backlash and disciplinary action from the BCCI.
Earlier, RR were already in the spotlight after team manager Romi Bhinder was fined ₹1 lakh for violating PMOA rules by using a phone in the dugout.
Officials labelled the vaping incident as careless, especially with constant camera coverage.
Will BCCI ban Riyan Parag?
The BCCI fined Parag 25% of his match fee and handed him one demerit point for a Level 1 breach of the IPL Code of Conduct. He accepted the sanction imposed by match referee Amit Sharma without protest. The board has also hinted at stricter steps in the future to maintain the IPL’s reputation. A repeat offence, they warned, could lead to harsher punishment, including suspension. As things stand, Riyan Parag is eligible to play in tonight’s match against Delhi Capitals.
However, his form remains a concern. He has averaged just 13–14 in nine matches, with a highest score of 29, and is yet to register a fifty this season.
