RAIA: Iqbal XI had the honour to be the first team to enter the semi-finals of 2nd Chandrakant Karapurkar Trophy beating Bannerman of Margao by 70 runs at SAG ground, Fatorda, on Friday.
Winning the toss, Skipper Govind Gaonkar put Iqbal XI to bat and the strong side methodically built up their innings and ended the innings at 187 runs in 19.5 overs. Aniket Parab (66) of 38 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes was at his best. Govind Gaonkar brought things under control with a good spell of 4 for 34 off 3.5 overs. The target of 188 runs proved to be stiff as Bannerman were all out for 117 runs off 15 overs.
Sankalp Pednekar and Ashok Rathod snapped three wickets each. Iqbal XI to meet the winners of Chowgule and Bicholim CC in the semi-finals on April 26.
