It’s Mel(win) for Sesa FA

MARGAO: Substitute striker Melwin Fernandes scored the crucial goal in the second half to guide Sesa Football Academy to 1-0 victory over relegation threatened Goa Velha Sports Club in the Goa Pro League (Relegation Zone) at government school playground, Cuncolim, on Saturday.

There was no score at lemon break.
Sesa boosted by their previous clash against Vasco Sports Club made their right moves from the start but lacked firepower upfront. The first chance came in the 10th minute when midfielder Agnelo Colaco rasping shot hit the cross bar much to the dismay of Sesa Football Academy bench.
Later, Yogesh Kadam in a one-to-one situation shot straight into the safe hands of Goa Velha goalkeeper Sidesh Morje.
Five minutes later, Agnelo Colaco sent a delightful cross for Yogesh, who did well to control it. He made a space for himself with couple of touches before unleashing a shot which didn’t trouble the rival goalkeeper.
Sesa nearly found the success in the 38th minute but Agnelo Colaco’s flag kick dropped infront of the goal but Goa Velha goalkeeper Siddesh Morje was equal to the task to parry away for an abortive flag kick.
At the other hand, Goa Velha were struggling and failed to function as a cohesive unit as they hardly tested the Sesa goalkeeper Fayaz Shaikh.
Post resumption, Sesa continued to enjoy the lion share of exchanges and the ball possession. They nearly broke the deadlock but Alber Gonsalves failed to beat the rival goalkeeper after Melwin put him on the platter.
The deadlock was broken in the 67th minute when Franzil Negredo played the ball to Melwin, who without wasting time unleashed snap shot from the top of the box to hit the right post eluding Goa Velha goalkeeper Sidesh.
Sesa nearly doubled the lead but Alber shot wide from close range after Girish Naik fed him the through pass.
Goa Velha pressed more men forward in an attempt to secure the equalizer.
They nearly neutralised but Joshua Vaz’s curling free kick was beautifully fisted away by Sesa goalkeeper Fayaz for an abortive flag kick.
Sesa almost increase the tally but Melvin’s feeble shot went into the safe of hands of rival goalkeeper in the injury time.
