Ivana wins Asian junior chess gold

PANJIM: Goa's Ivana Maria Furtado (WIM) won gold medal at the Asian Junior Chess Championship held at Hiraz, Iran on Wednesday.

PANJIM: Goa’s Ivana Maria Furtado (WIM) won gold medal at the Asian Junior Chess Championship held at Hiraz, Iran on Wednesday.
Ivana, a student of Rosary Higher Secondary School, Dona Paula, remained undefeated throughout the tournament having won five games beating Hotami of Tajikistan, Mandar of Syria, Fatemeh, Anousha and Mobina of Iran. She drew four games against Alijanzabeh of Iran, Meghna, Rupimbera and Harshita of India.
Ivana tallied seven points out of maximum nine in the championship held from May 1 to 10.
Ivana earned 14 ELO rating points and she has now two WGM norms.
This is her second gold in the Asian event, having won the first gold in 2013.
Rosary HSS, Dona Paula Principal Sr Janet congratulated Ivana on her success and said, “You have made India proud with the coveted gold. It is a proud moment for Goa and Goans,”
“Ivana has once again displayed her acumen in chess and she has been a consistently top performer at the international levels for quite many years. She did the school proud,” Sister Janet remarked.
Ivana had her mother Jennifer Lopes Furtado as her manager.
